The obligation of every doctor is a continuous medical education! This is the main message addressed by Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu to those interested in participating in the 15th edition of the National Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery Conference (HPB), organized between April 20-23, 2023, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Bucharest.

Hundreds of specialists in the field of surgery, from the main medical centers in Romania, as well as from abroad, are expected to take part in the event organized under the auspices of the Romanian Association of Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery and Liver Transplantation, whose Honorary President is Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu, and President is Prof. Dr. Vlad Brașoveanu.

Current guidelines, at international standards

“All those who work in the field of hepato-bilio-pancreatic surgery are invited to present their experience and to discuss the current programs, to be aware of the latest news, in order to outline the guidelines according to which HPB surgery must be performed in the year 2023, at the level that international surgery has reached at this moment”, was the message addressed to the interested public by Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu.

The conference goals 

According to Prof. Popescu, the objective of the conference is to update knowledge in a field that is becoming more and more well structured and whose organization began in Romania in 2006, with the establishment of the association of which he is the Honorary President and which has the obligation to, from year to year, synthesize everything that has accumulated in the time interval between two conferences.

Debate topics

“In the interval between two conferences, experience is accumulated, methods and results improve, and the moment we are in must be marked. On the other hand, other centers are being established in Romania that develop this type of surgery and which must be encouraged, so without being spectacular news, what has been accumulated in liver transplantation in liver resection, in the resection of of the pancreas, the new minimally invasive methods of addressing hepato-bilio-pancreatic diseases”, explained Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu, when asked about what this edition brings, compared to the previous ones.

Life and career anniversary

Moreover, the conference will end in a festive manner, considering that April 22nd will be dedicated to Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu, who turns 70 years old, an occasion to celebrate his long and remarkable surgical, didactic, publishing activities, research, with multiple firsts in the medical field, among which is the one for the introduction, in Romania, of liver transplantation and robotic surgery.

Event credited by the Romanian College of Physicians

The conference organized under the umbrella of the Romanian Association of Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery and Liver Transplantation is accredited by the Romanian College of Physicians and the Order of Medical Assistants Generals, Midwives and Medical Assistants from Romania.

The event is an opportunity for information, exchange of experience, but also a possibility to initiate collaborative projects.
